Maserati history

Founded by six brothers in 1914, Maserati began as a manufacturer of certain engine parts. Only in 1926 the first ever Maserati was developed; the Tipo 26. This car was meant for races and Alfieri Maserati also won the first rally, the Targa Florio, they took part in. Until the late 1950s only race cars were manufactured. The Maserati 3500 GTS was the first ever 'streetcar'created in 1957. Twenty years later when bankruptcy was within sight, De Tomaso took on the company and made a great comeback in 1982 when the Biturbo was presented. After the latest version of the Biturbo. the company cooperated with Ferrari before it became a part of Alfa Romeo only a few years later.
